Admission requirements are unique for each of Wytheville Community College’s Health Professions programs. In addition to submitting the official application for college admission, you must also complete ALL admission requirements for your intended program of study and complete the online Health Professions Application if you intend to apply for one of the programs below:

Official (sealed) transcripts can be either mailed to WCC from the originating institution or accepted from the student, provided that the transcript is official and the original envelope seal remains intact. Transcripts may also be emailed by the institution to admissions@wcc.shorinji-kempo.net. Transcripts emailed from the student will not be accepted with the exception of Home School Transcripts. Note: Transcripts from other Virginia Community Colleges are not required.

TEAS scores are valid for 3 years. Applicants are limited to three testing attempts at WCC each academic year, test dates are typically scheduled between October and May.

The deadline for all programs is March 17th. All application requirements must be completed by this deadline and all Health Professions Applications must be submitted to WCC Admissions and Records Office by the deadline to be considered. It is the student’s responsibility to make sure all materials have been received and the Health Professions Applications submitted by the deadline.

Any materials postmarked or received via mail, email, fax, or other delivery methods after the deadline will NOT be accepted. There are no exceptions to this deadline.

Background Checks

  • Background checks for criminal history and sex offender crimes against minors are required by most programs for entrance into some clinical agencies. Students with convictions may be prohibited from clinical practice, may be ineligible to sit for required licensure examinations, and may not complete the program. Clinical agencies may require drug testing before placement of students for clinical rotations. Students with positive drug test results may be prohibited from clinical practice and may not complete the program. The cost for criminal background checks and drug testing will be the responsibility of the student. 
  • Criminal background check and drug screening information will be sent to admitted candidates after final admission decisions have been made. 

Admissions Selection

  • The Admissions and Records Office will review files and determine which candidates meet the minimum requirements and are eligible to apply for program admission. The health program department heads will review these completed applications along with all TEAS scores and transcripts for offers of admission. Candidates are scored based on discipline-specific criteria for admissions. 
  • For programs requiring a pre-admission interview, the Admissions and Records Office will send a letter to candidates with information regarding the interview time and date. Failure to show at the interview will remove you from the selective process. 
  • Students will be notified by letter of admission status as follows: SELECTED for admission, an ALTERNATE for admission, or NOT SELECTED for admission. Decisions will not be made until all completed candidate files have been reviewed; letters will be sent in early April. Students not selected for admission or who decline a slot may choose to reapply for the following year by completing the Health Professions Application for that year.

 

By federal regulation 34 CFR 668.43, Wytheville Community College (WCC) must disclose to prospective out-of-state students which states its programs meet and do not meet the applicable educational requirements for professional licensure or certification. 

Prospective students outside the Commonwealth of Virginia who may enroll in a program at Wytheville Community College that prepares students for external certification or licensure or may require clinical placements or internships should be from a state where the program MEETS the educational requirements for certification or licensure. 

If the student is from a state where the WCC program does NOT MEET the student's home state requirements and the student is enrolled in at least one course online their first semester in the program, the student must provide a written attestation where they intend to seek employment after completing the program. Online students cannot enroll if they reside and plan to seek employment in a state where WCC’s program does not meet that state’s requirements for certification or licensure.

Attestation Process

Federal regulations prohibit Wytheville Community College (WCC) from enrolling students in a program that leads to licensure or certification if the college does not meet the educational requirements for licensure or certification in the student's state of residence.

Students who intend to seek licensure and employment in a different state may be eligible for enrollment in their chosen program, provided that the program meets the educational requirements for licensure in that state and that they submit an attestation.

The student's attestation requires completing a form returned to the college within 14 days of receiving the notification. Students who do not submit an attestation in that time period will not be allowed to enroll at WCC.

 

Complaint Resolution

Wytheville Community College’s Student Grievance Policy and Procedure is described in our catalog. WCC strives to provide the highest quality educational opportunities available. However, if a conflict does arise, our efforts are meant to resolve your grievances, complaints, and concerns in an expeditious, fair, and amicable manner. Students should carefully follow the steps outlined in our catalog to ensure proper and timely resolution of their complaint.

In accordance with the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA), the complaint procedures outlined in our catalog are subject to oversight by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) in complaints arising from students living outside Virginia who are enrolled in courses at WCC. If an issue cannot be resolved by the college’s customary resolution procedure, students may file a formal complaint directly with SCHEV. Grade appeals and student conduct appeals are not allowed under SARA.
